Alberta Education Week
Time: All Day
LENT - 40 days of simple living, repent of sins, and self-denial

School Wide Read-A-Thon
Time: All Day
We are holding our annual Read-A-Thon at the start of Alberta Education Week from Monday, April 7 to Wednesday, April 16, 2025 (10 days). All students in Kindergarten to Grade 5 will have the opportunity to read books of their choosing and record the number of minutes they read. Students will also be provided a “reading log” and a pledge envelope.
Goals:
- Motivate children to read for fun, overcome reading obstacles, and the importance of daily reading.
- Encourage parents to read to their children and children to read with one another
- If we raise over $2000: the students will WIN THE SCHOOL and the staff will compete in an Inflatable Costume Race!
- All funds are used to support student and school activities
Procedure:
During the Read-A-Thon (10 days), every time you read, or listen to someone read at school or at home, be sure to record the number of minutes on your “Reading Log.”
Ways to sponsor/donate:
- Sponsors fill out the Sponsor Pledge Sheet. Cheques can be made out to “St. Patrick School”.
- When you finish the Read-A-Thon, contact your sponsors, tell them how much you read, and kindly collect your donations. Please commit to your goal and support of your sponsors.
- Sponsors/Donors can be your parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors, friends – just about anyone! We do not encourage door to door solicitation.
Rules/Reminders:
- Reading at school counts toward your minutes. Be sure to write your daily minutes into your agendas to share with parents - into your “Reading Log”. Keep your reading log at home for parents to add daily reading minutes for school and home.
- When you finish a book, read another. Other people reading aloud to you also counts (ie: parents, siblings, friends and grandparents). Reading aloud to the dog, the cat, and the goldfish also counts.
- No guessing or rounding off minutes. Please look at the clock or use a timer or stopwatch.
- Please be honest so that it will be fair and fun for everyone. Your parents or teacher need to initial your form EACH day.
- FINAL DAY: be sure to bring your reading chart and pledge envelope to school on, or before, Thursday, April 17, 2025.
Incentives/Prizes:
- “Win the School” – If students reach our school goal of 135 000 total minutes, they will have the opportunity to “Win the School”. This is a day where there are several activities taking place around the school such as; Grade Dodgeball Tournament, Chromebooks & Computer Lab, Sneaky Recess, Art/Craft Activities, Classroom Activity (movie/other), and Classroom Games - Board/Card/other
- Skip The Dishes Lunch with Principal/Vice Principal:
- Top student from each grade with the highest number of minutes read.
- Top 6 student pledges from the school
If you have any questions, please contact the school. Thank you for your participation in this school community activity in helping support literacy within our students.
